Over the last seven years as a business and communications consultant, Clemens has worked with more than 1,000 people in healthcare, manufacturing, telecommunications, aerospace and defense, high tech, software, financial services and non-profit organizations. Importantly, he’s worked with employees at all levels of these organizations, including frontline workers, managers, directors and the presidents and their senior staffs. He’s gotten to know many of these people well and understand their organizations from several different vantage points. This is rare among consultants who work almost exclusively with one group or another and don’t get to see many sides of the same organization. Clemens’s warm and open personality earns him the confidence of these employees, who open up and give him the “real story” behind their work and lives.

Consider that in his 17-year corporate and consulting career, he has walked the manufacturing floor where they build the world’s most advanced fighter aircraft (F/A-22, F-16 and F-35), sat with developers who write the software code for the FAA’s Air Traffic Control system, seen fiber optic cable and satellite dishes being made, interviewed the president of a company that manufactures disk drives, been with a veterinarian providing treatment to wild bald eagles, facilitated process improvement teams at injection molding and manufacturing facilities, managed a 100-person call center during a labor strike, worked with a team that manufactured 5 million hypodermic needles in one day, stood inside the external fuel tank of the space shuttle and supported the team that was on console during several satellite and space exploration mission launches. He’s also conducted media relations for First Data Corporation, Columbia/HCA and US West, both developing proactive strategies and campaigns and reacting to media requests, which included print and on-camera interviews.

This experience gives him enormous credibility to write and speak on the topics of career success and life balance. But not only has he been with people as they’ve experienced the situations he writes about, he’s lived them too. At different times in his career, he was on the fast track, earning promotions quickly and advancing his career. At other times, he was a victim of office politics and organizational upheaval that stunted his progress. Like the people he trains and coaches, he’s enjoyed high-profile successes, struggled through frustration and everything in between. He’s worked with those people who have excelled at work at the expense of a family life as well as those who’ve put their career on hold to invest in themselves and their families. And, he’s worked with people stuck somewhere in the middle, trying to juggle needs, priorities and responsibilities – those millions of American workers dissatisfied with their jobs and looking for another way. Clemens has been there in the trenches himself, trying to balance career success and family life.
